Guess how much Atlantic Canadians are projected to spend on the upcoming holiday? It’s $904! A survey by Retail Council of Canada also found that Maritimers are the most loyal to big box companies of Canadians. (Source)
We know that only a 10% shift toward local goods and services in Atlantic Canada would have a huge impact.
- The GDP of the region would grow by $4.7 billion.
- We’d create 43,000 new jobs.
- We’d generate 2.6$ billion in new wages.
- This 10% shift would provide enough joys to employ one third of those who were unemployed, at the time of this report. (Source)
Let’s that take $904, and if half of Nova Scotians, about 500,000 people, spent 10% of that on small business for the holidays, that would be a $45,200,000 investment in local businesses. This would result in more of that money staying in our local economy, more sustainability for our unique artisans, and happier gift receivers. That’s just 10 percent!
If 1,000,000 Nova Scotians spent 10% of that projected holiday budget locally, being artisans or farmers or local producers of any kind, that’s $90,000,000. So many zeros!
